The Investment Club is a student run club at our school. This site is a independently developed by Neal and community resource, not a business, so this policy describes, honestly and specifically, what the site actually does with information..
What we collect, and why
- The name you enter in the Portfolio Simulator. This is stored in your browser and sent to our database so it can appear on the shared Leaderboard, visible to anyone who visits the site. You have to use your real name to recive a prize.
- Your simulated portfolio (cash balance, holdings, trade history). This stays only in your own browser's local storage. We never receive it, and it doesn't sync to our database or appear anywhere else.
- Whether you've acknowledged the site's disclaimer. Stored only in your browser, so it doesn't ask again. Once you click I agree it will never appear again)/li>
- Organizer email and password, only if you sign in as a club President or Vice President to manage meetings. This is handled entirely by our authentication provider (Supabase).
- Stock ticker symbols you search (in Research, Calendar, or the Simulator) are sent to our market-data providers: Finnhub, Polygon.io, and Twelve Data, to look up prices. No personal information is sent along with these searches.
What we don't do
- We don't use tracking cookies or advertising scripts.
- We don't sell, rent, or share any information with advertisers.
- We don't require an account or a name to use the, quiz, or research tools.
Who can see what
Anything you submit to the Leaderboard (your chosen name, portfolio value, and return percentage) is public, and visible to anyone who visits the Leaderboard page. Everything else described above either stays in your own browser or is only visible to club organizers.
Where information is stored
Leaderboard entries and the meeting schedule are stored with Supabase, a third-party database provider. We take care of how this is configured, but as with any online service, we can't guarantee 100% security.
Third-party services this site uses
- Finnhub, Polygon.io, Twelve Data — live and historical stock market data
- Supabase — the database behind the shared Leaderboard, meeting schedule, and organizer sign-in
- Google Forms — used for the gift-card donation link on the Leaderboard page
Each of these has its own privacy policy governing how they handle data on their end.
