Privacy Policy

The Investment Club is a student run club at our school. This site is a independently developed by Neal and community resource, not a business, so this policy describes everything with full transparency.

What we collect, and why

• Your account: email, password, and real name. You need a free account to use the Portfolio Simulator and appear on the Leaderboard. Your name is shown on the Leaderboard, visible to anyone who visits the site, so please use your real name (it is also how a prize is awarded). Your password is handled by our sign-in provider, which stores it scrambled so that nobody, including us, can read it. You must be 13 or older to make an account.
• Your simulated portfolio (cash balance, holdings, trade history). This is saved in our database and tied to your account, so it follows you across devices. Only you and club organizers can see it. The Leaderboard shows just your name, portfolio value, and return.
• A claim code, if you played before accounts existed. An organizer can give you a one-time code that moves your earlier results onto your account. We store only a scrambled version of the code, and each code works once.
• Whether you've acknowledged the site's disclaimer. Stored only in your browser, so it doesn't ask again. Once you click I agree it will never appear again
• Organizer email and password, only if you sign in as a club President or Vice President to manage meetings.
• Stock ticker symbols you search (in Research, Calendar, or the Simulator) are sent to our market-data providers: Finnhub and Polygon.io(now known as Massive) to look up prices. No personal information is sent along with these searches.
• Payment information, if you buy Premium. Premium is an optional paid upgrade. Your card details go directly to our payment processor, Stripe — we never see or store your card number. We keep only what Stripe tells us back: that your payment succeeded, your subscription status, and an internal customer ID used to manage billing. If you're under 18, a parent or guardian should be the one entering payment details.

What we don't do

• We don't use tracking cookies or advertising scripts. See "Cookies and local storage" below for the small amount of data your browser itself holds onto.
• We don't sell, rent, or share any information with advertisers.
• We don't require an account to browse the site, take the quiz, or use the research tools. Accounts are only needed for the simulator, Leaderboard, and Premium.
• We dont have access to actual stocks you purchase with real money.

Cookies and local storage

This site doesn't use tracking or advertising cookies, and no outside company can follow you around the web because of anything here. It does use a small amount of storage inside your own browser — never sent to us or anyone else unless the specific feature described needs it:

• Disclaimer acknowledgment. Saved in your browser's local storage so the "Before You Continue" notice doesn't show every visit. Clearing it (or your browser data) brings the notice back.
• Signed-in sessions. Our sign-in provider, Supabase, keeps you signed in to the Simulator and Premium using your browser's storage, so you don't have to log in every time you open the site. The organizer sign-in on the homepage works the same way, scoped to that one browser tab's session.

The Live Portfolio

The Live Portfolio page shows the club's own real brokerage account — not a student's. It's connected through SnapTrade, a service that reads the account's balance and holdings; no member's personal or financial information is involved, since it's one account controlled by club organizers. See "Third-party services" below.

Who can see what

Anything shown on the Leaderboard (your name, portfolio value, and return percentage) is public, and visible to anyone who visits the Leaderboard page. Your email, password, and full portfolio details are visible only to you and, where needed to run the club, to organizers.

Where information is stored

Accounts, portfolios, Leaderboard entries, and the meeting schedule are stored with Supabase, a third-party database and sign-in provider. We take safety precautions with how this is configured, but as with any online service, we can NOT guarantee 100% security.

Third-party services this site uses & use cases

• Finnhub and Polygon.io(Massive) : live and historical stock market data
• FRED (Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis) : public macroeconomic data shown in Premium. No personal information is sent to FRED.
• Supabase : the database and sign-in system behind accounts, portfolios, the shared Leaderboard, and the meeting schedule
• Stripe : processes Premium membership payments. We never see your full card number.
• SnapTrade : reads the balance and holdings of the club's own real brokerage account for the Live Portfolio page. Not connected to any member's personal brokerage account.
• Google Forms : used for the gift card donation link on the Leaderboard page

Each of these has its own privacy policy governing how they handle data on their end.
